One example of learning from the inside of complex situations, and the very source of our somatic knowledge of how to deal with crises, is our own evolutionary and cultural heritage. We did not enter into nature as thinking beings separated from it; we came out of nature with experience. It is critical that we capture that experience, study it, understand it, and then translate it from cultural language and ancient wisdom into modern language for science, policy, and ethics. There is much that we as humans already know, if we will just listen to our deepest experiences.
